Yes. They're established state government energy efficiency schemes — Victoria's VEU has run since 2009 and supported over 2 million households. The incentive is funded by tradable energy certificates generated when an accredited provider installs an efficient system.

Three reasons: each state runs a different scheme with different rules; the certificate market prices move like any market; and your specific situation (system type, what's being replaced, climate zone, concession status) drives the calculation. No. The check is free and there's no obligation. If you proceed, you pay the discounted install price to the provider — in Victoria a mandatory co-payment applies ($200–$1,000 depending on system type).

High-efficiency reverse cycle systems — split systems, multi-head splits and ducted systems — that appear on the relevant scheme's approved product registers. Cooling-only units generally don't qualify; reverse cycle is the point, since it replaces inefficient heating too.

Only scheme-accredited providers can generate the certificates that fund your discount. A non-accredited installer might do a fine job mechanically, but you'd pay full price — there'd be no rebate at all.

Generally the scheme incentive and the installer's commercial pricing are bundled into one quoted price. Federal or council programs occasionally stack — your matched provider will tell you what applies in your case.
